Research Chemist

This role will fill a vital position within the company. The primary function of this role will be driving corporate goals and objectives by the formulation and feasibility testing of new and novel ingredients/products.

Basic Knowledge:

Must understand the applicability of the laws concerning dietary supplements including:

  • A full understanding of DSHEA and what is required for any ingredient to be classified as compliant with DSHEA guidelines.
  • A basic understanding of the research required by the FDA and FTC which is necessary to make claims on the effectiveness of any ingredient in a formula
  • Ability to learn methodologies for sourcing obscure raw materials

Job Duties:

  • Actively searches, identifies, reviews and provides feedback on technologies and novel DSHEA compliant ingredients applicable to new or current formulas
  • Finalize theoretical formulas and oversees feasibility testing
  • Directly collaborates with external raw material suppliers
  • Track status of all formulas in active development
  • Develop design and targets in-house alpha and beta testing
  • Prepare research substantiation for recommended dosing protocol of each ingredient in the formula in order to provide the desired effect and/or match the claims made.
  • Participate in online forums to validate science behind the formulas presented.

Education/Skills required:

  • B.Sc. in Sciences field with 5+ years of relevant experience; or M.Sc. 4-6 years of relevant experience; or Ph.D. with 0-4 years of relevant experience
  • In depth knowledge and technical expertise of varied aspects within Dietary Supplement/ Sport Nutrition Sciences.
  • Capacity to apply technical skills & functional knowledge to research new ingredients, design formulations, and use or develop new ideas, hypotheses.
  • Strong decision making skills, using a high degree of scientific judgment to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to apply financial/business constraints to proposed formulas including a full understanding of manufacturing costs and margins.
  • Passion and appreciation for exercise, fitness and health
  • Ability to handle and adapt to changes smoothly
  • Research minded with superior critical thinking skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Able to work, learn and think quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment
  • Extroverted and ambitious with communication, presentation, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and internet applications
