    Default SNOWmageddon 2010

    Share |
Whomever dubbed it "Snowmageddon" needs to be shot.

Yes, we got a pile of snow over here in the East this weekend. Where I'm at in PA, we got hit with the "lighter" amount. About 50 miles south of me towards Maryland got up to 3 feet, with more in Vaginia. In Jtown, I measured 22" on the sidewalk at 7am Saturday morning and it snowed 2-3 more inches throughout the day. Altogether, the weather channel reported 28" for Jtown. Yikes!

All I know is that it's a lot of snow. It was a ton of work to move it so I could leave the house. And when in doubt, an empty garbage can makes a much better snow displacement device than a 12" coal shovel.

PICS!!!!! These are just some from my phone. I actually busted out the digicam to take a few more and will have to post those later on this week. I'm sure Bill has some to add here, too. Keep in mind that there was NO snow on the ground at all up until the storm...

It started about 1:30pm. Here's a shot leaving my office at about 3:04pm.

Going down the highway at 4:27pm to pick up Izzie... a coal truck spun around backwards and ended up in the ditch on the exit ramp from the northbound lane. (I was heading South.)

9:03pm. Dark out and just starting to get really nasty.

11:33pm. Took a ruler out to measure snow on the hood of the Intrepid. The first 2-3 inches slid off because it was still warm enough out to do so. This reads just under 10".

The next morning: Shot from my front porch, this is my neighbor's house and vehicles. In front is a Hyundai and in back is a full-size pick-up truck. Seriously.

Yes, I told you I used a garbage can to scoop!! This is my Intrepid before it was re-discovered. The plow had not even passed by yet to throw snow back on the cars.

    Oh there's the Saab!!

Looks deep bro! How well do you think America deals with downfalls like this?

In the UK when it comes to snow we are completely useless, everyone C**Ps themselves, there is never enough grit and people like to use it as an excuse to not go to work "I couldn't get there" even if they do live a 5minute walk away and so on.

It happened recently and it doesn't look quite as deep as in those pictures, especially not where I live anyway.

I think that many can deal with it just fine. Where I live, in Pennsylvania, we're kinda used to it this time of year. It's cold, it snows a bunch, and everywhere is a hill or valley. Of course 90% of the people freak out like they've never seen snow before and can't deal with it. 10% of the rest of them drive like assholes all the time and don't care what the weather is like - they'll just as soon kill ya as slow down. They're the retards who never seem to wreck and die, making it safe for the rest of us!!

If this kind of snow happened in North Carolina, it'd be a national emergency or something stupid. If it happened in Florida, prices of oranges would go up around the globe and old people would be dead by the thousands. If it happened in mountains of Utah, Colorado, or Arizona, they'd call it "Saturday".

Ye I guess different areas are effected in different ways, some obviously more prone than others. We had problems like, old people not been able to get to the supermarket and so dieing in their homes and people retardedly driving into the middle of frozen over lakes and crashing through the ice because of no sign posts up. I even witnessed 2 buses sliding into each other, god what a collision! I nearly shat myself it made me jump that much with the noise.

I hear you about the idiots. Most people go slow and cautious and still crash! Yet I Looked outta ma room window one day and saw some idiot thinking he was on some sort of skid course, sliding the back-end of the car from side to side merely avoiding cars on the street... I could see his expressions and by god he was loving it! Can't say he would of thought the same if he had hit my girls car, id of beat him to a pulp.

    wow

I got hit pretty hard on Friday with snow, but not that bad. I'm close to the lake though. The storm probably built up as it passed by me and dumped the remainder on you. You're welcome.

My brother got nailed with the snow, he lives in Pittsburgh. He said he got 30" and of course when they plowed his apartment complex they buried his car.

I didn't get too much from it. In SE Michigan, we just got clipped by the northern edge. We got like an inch, Detroit saw nothing (30 mi. north of me) but Toledo got hit a bit (like 6"). We're seeing a good sized one tomorrow, expecting 6-10"

Here's a couple shots...my album on Facebook is actually called "Snowmageddon 2010" and I'm saying the media borrowed that from me :P

This is on the hood of the truck the morning after (7AM). Just under 18"

This is on the ground next to the truck, about 7AM. 21 1/2" and still coming down

During the night, this was on the truck (I think...and it was one of my few consistent points of measure). 9" after about 5 hours or so.

Random shot looking down my road. They never plowed until well into the night, and when they did, it buried my front porch.

Rated "U" for Unbreakable - Criers, Whiners, Complainers, Quitters, and Excuse Makers NOT TOLERATED!

"That's how winning is done. Now if you know what you're worth, go out and get what you're worth! But you gotta be willing to take the hits, and not pointing fingers sayin' you ain't where you wanna be because of him, or her, or anybody! Cowards do that, and that ain't you! You're better than that!" - from the movie "Rocky Balboa"
