Another ingredient may bite the dust: PATERSON, N.J.—A class action lawsuit filed in Passaic County Court claims Oveido, Fla.-based Nutrex Research promoted a range of sports nutrition and weight loss products as natural dietary supplements, but knowingly formulated the products with pharmaceuticals. Reporting for Courthouse News Service, Chris Fry noted the lawsuit cited products Lipo-6 Hers, Lipo-6 Black and Ignite as promoted for weight loss using natural stimulants; however, the suit claims the products contain methylsynephrine, an amphetamine stimulant drug sold as Oxilofrine and a metabolite of the designer drug methoxymethamphetamine (PMMA), considered a performance-enhancing drug and classified as a banned substance by both the World Anti-Doping Agency and the United States Anti-Doping Agency. The lawsuit, posted by Courthouse News Service here, claims the plaintiffs promoted the products as all-natural, safe and free of banned substances, knowing of the presence of methylsynephrine. As such, it is seeking an order enjoining the company and its principal officers from their activities as well as restitution to the class plus trebled and punitive damages.
Just to bad, but yeh if you step over the line you will pay someday.. Not all tight in the law stuff, is it a new ban of the drugs? or old? Now I can just be happy about that I've never tried any of the supplements, but have look at them a few times
Oh brother. I sometimes get the feeling pharmaceutical people just want to abosorb the entire industry, so they can charge you an arm and a leg for fish oil.
It's a double edged sword to say the least. Although I do wholeheartedly agree with you sinner, the issue is that if a pharm company wants to release a product it is subject to millions of dollars worth of tests they have to foot the bill for and have to wait (potentially) up to a decade for their product to hit the market. Whereas lots of smaller "nutraceutical" companies might make (synthetic) metabolites of known substances and just stick them on the shelves of a "healthfood" store. Although yes, they are swimming in money and we are not, it doesn't make sense that companies that don't produce "drugs" can pretty much circumvent the whole bureaucratic process of putting a compound on the shelf. Just playing devil's advocate... -Prof P.S. (Stick it to the MAN and the alphabet soup they swim in)
i've tried lipo 6 black, didn't think too much of it personally. though Nutrex does have some very solid products. hate to see any supp. company take a hit. hope they come out of it okay..
